FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America)

In high school, I took a fashion design class and had the opportunity to showcase my work at the FCCLA conference. Our teacher selected a few students, and I was honored to be one of them. At the conference, we presented our designs to a panel of judges, explaining the techniques, inspiration, and mood behind each piece. We also modeled our creations in front of the judges and Helen Castillo from Project Runway. I was thrilled to win 1st place in both Evening Wear and Overall Design. That day, I realized I was truly in love with fashion.

Drexel Symposium

In college, we focused heavily on sustainable fashion. One course required us to create a garment using non-conventional materials, and I chose to work with shower curtains, clear garbage bags, and broken plastic. My design was inspired by the ocean and the alarming amount of waste that ends up in our waters. I wanted to create something fluid and trendy, while also raising awareness about environmental issues. The project was incredibly fun, and I submitted my design to Drexel's symposium, where it was selected for showcase. It was truly gratifying to see my work displayed alongside so many other amazing creations.

ITAA Conference (International textile & apparel association)

The ITAA conference is an annual event hosted by the International Textile and Apparel Association, where a select group of designers present their work to a panel of judges, as well as fellow designers and aspiring professionals. I was beyond excited to be accepted, especially since I was only the second student in my college’s history to receive this honor.
